There is plenty of work available in the Vaasa region. Most people are surprised to learn that unemployment here is the lowest on the Finnish mainland. The dynamic economic structure is one of the key factors behind the high employment rate in the Vaasa region. Jobs are not reliant on just one factory or sector, thanks to this very diverse local economic structure.
The income level here is almost as high as in the capital area and Vaasa region is also one of the most business-intensive areas in Finland. The region’s approximately 8,000 enterprises are crucial for the whole area’s vitality. This is probably one of the major reasons for the well-being of people in these parts; after all, they have a better chance of getting a permanent job here.
The favourable development of Vaasa and the whole region has been fuelled by the fact that the most significant hub of energy know-how in the Nordic countries is located here. The energy cluster provides more than 11,000 of the region’s residents with their livelihood. The sector’s top global companies, ABB and Wärtsilä, are familiar to most, but there are 140 other companies operating within the energy field in this region. Internationality is characteristic of the energy industry, as more than 80 % of its products and services are exported. You can read more about this success story in the EnergyVaasa section.
Of course, there are also many jobs within the public sector, with the City of Vaasa and the Hospital Districts being the largest municipal employers. Due to our great language skills, several state and institutional units are also located in our city.
